Mansion Tour

Stop 3: FIRST FLOOR ENTRANCE HALL
As you enter the mansion through the front door your attention is usually drawn to the beautiful view out across the great lawn and to the water beyond. The long, narrow layout of the mansion affords a fine view of the Great Lawn and the Bay from most of the rooms, and the family had favorite spots from which they could observe yachting activity as boats sailed to and from Bristol Harbor.
Notice the ceilings in the Entrance Hall designed in the Colonial Revival style, using some wood but mostly plaster. You can identify this style by its use of classical ornament: columns, dentils moldings, volutes, etc. The Colonial Revival style was based on the Georgian style, popular in the English colonies in America in the mid-18th century.
