Arboretum & Garden

INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum, a 33-acre estate situated on tranquil Narragansett Bay. During this 30 minute tour, you’ll explore these lovely gardens and grounds. In 1894 coal baron Augustus Van Wickle and his wife Bessie purchased this property as a summer retreat. The beauty and location of the site made it the perfect place to pursue the family’s love of nature and Bessie’s passion for horticulture.
Blithewold’s exceptional collection of rare and unusual plants, specimen trees, an accessible greenhouse, and whimsical stonework project a character that is romantic, fresh, and inspiring.
